El Señor de los añillos

domingo 9 de enero, 2011. Hamilton, Nueva Zelanda

Cambio y fuera.

Sunday January 9, 2011. Hamilton, New Zealand

This morning Chad and I took a while to get out. We had breakfast in a cafe in the center of Ohakune. We then climbed the southern slope of Mount Ruapehu. After passing the tree line the landscape becomes very barren and desolate. It is then that you can appreciate Morodor. We then went around and again climbed the northwest side from which we could see Mount Ngauruhoe aka Mount Doom in "Lord of the Rings. " We spent much of the day hiking and taking photos. Then continue around the Tongariro National Park and saw lakes, rivers and volcanic fumaroles. Then we stopped by Lake Taupo and ate some kiwis that we had bought the day before. The rest of the day we traveled north towards Auckland and finally stopped in
Hamilton, about 150 km to the south. After removing the bags from the car we walked downtown and ate pizza at the Iguana restaurant. Tomorrow we are going to Auckland to spend the day (unless we find something else on the way). The day after tomorrow we head bakc to Christchurch and from there I'm going to Sydney for a couple of days before finally returning home (it's time to get home).
Over and out.
