No estaba exagerando.
Cambio y fuera.

Friday January 7, 2011, Christchurch, New Zealand

Well here I am again. It was a long night and I have not slept more than three hours but in the end, what matters is that I'm finally here. Paolo I had mentioned that one of the things that impressed him was the scent (of plants) upon exiting the plane. He was not exaggerating. One immediately notices the smells after the sensory deprivation at the Pole in this regard. Of course the other things you notice are the heat and moisture. We are in the middle of summer now. It's hotter than the last time I was here. It is amazing to see trees and gardens with flowers (and I only spent three weeks in Antarctica). There is a park right across from my hotel and I could not resist  but to lie down on the grass in the sun. The flight was interesting. We took off amid a snowstorm and did not load any cargo so we were allowed to lie down in the middle of the floor of the aircraft once it had reached cruising altitude. That was why I was able to sleep at all. Then I woke up cold and I could not go back to sleep. Upon arrival I received a message from Chad. He is in the northern island of New Zealand. Tomorrow I will fly to Wellington to meet with him and rent a car to get around the island. This is where they filmed "Lord of the Rings." It's early but I'm pretty tired and besides I have to get up early to catch the flight to Wellington. Over and out.
