Próxima estación: McMurdo

Viernes 17 de diciembre.

Hoy salimos rumbo a McMurdo.
...Cambio y fuera.

Friday 17 December.

Today we set off for McMurdo. The van comes to pick up at a quarter to nine. We have to be in the CDC at nine and a half to dress and pack our luggage (duffel bags oranges) that includes the equipment provided to us and those items we want to take to Antarctica. The rest is left in the CDC until we return. The flight leaves at noon. Yesterday we went to the CDC where we found two duffel bags waiting with all kinds of winter clothing, including parkas, boots, gloves, glasses, etc. We tested all the equipment to make sure it all fit well and made necessary changes: my gloves were a little small and based on recommendations, I also asked for extra glove liners. We had the afternoon off and I went to the Cantenbury Museum to see an exhibition about the early expeditions to the Pole including those by Roald including Admunsen and Robert Scott to conquer the South Pole. Later I walked with a colleag from IceCube through the center where we appreciated the extent of the damage caused by the 7.1 magnitude earthquake that occurred last September here in Christchurch.
I awoke in the middle of the night because my body still does not get used to the time change but I managed to sleep a few hours later. Finally, I got up at six. Soon I'll call Amy through Skype during her "lunch break". This will be the last time you can use Skype until my return. As I have understood, it is blocked at the station.
I hope to have the opportunity to see penguins in McMurdo before going to the Pole.
... Over and out.
